Nur Gürel graduated from Istanbul Fine Arts High School in 1998. After completing her BA in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, department of painting, in 2004, she completed her MA studies in Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, department of painting in 2007.

Nur Gürel is interested in the impositions and its consequences of consumer society referring to advertising language by using its key tool, manipulation . She used to work with scenic wallpapers while working on urban renewal constructions as the theme of her early works. Then wallpapers are replaced by stock images , photographs, magazines, posters and billboards in her later works. She aims to cause disturbance in her works referring the contrasts like Interior-outdoor, photography-painting, digital print –painting, city-forest, skinny- fat. She manipulates the image in a primitive presicion, manually. So that the sterilized advertising language naturalises She currently lives and works in Istanbul.
